Bertie goes to Totleigh Towers at Stephanie "Stiffy" Byng's request. She wants him to steal an African statue which she thinks is evil. Gussie Fink-Nottle at Madeline Bassett's request has become a vegetarian, but this is too much for him and he falls for the cook (Emerald) who has been feeding him steak and kidney pie at midnight. Madeline, with Gussie out of the way, falls for Bertie, who steals the statue but has to return it when the owner (Major Plank) will not buy it back. Bertie then blacks up to pretend to be an African wanting to get the statue back for his tribe, just as the real Africans turn up. Jeeves can sort things out though, for a price. (thetvdb.com)
