Commander Corry and his crew investigate a mysterious burst of radiation from outside the Solar System. They trace the source to the surface of a planet whose once great civilization has been recently devastated by nuclear war. When they approach a space station above the planet's surface to search for survivors, their spacecraft is seriously damaged by a bomb and forced to land on the planet's charred surface.
