Phil tells Alec that he is staying undercover at the Rovers because he is a witness in a court case against a "goon", and it helps the prosecution for him to "disappear" for a few days. Scotch Tommy, it turns out, is no threat: he's doing some construction work for Phil. [In a scene evidently cut by the CBC, Deirdre and Mavis notice a sign (being put up by Scotch Tommy?) in one of the new buildings across from the Rovers which indicates that Phil's business is moving in.] Phil tells Deirdre it is just a temporary storage facility--he is *not* opening an amusement arcade there. When Emily discovers that Percy has been discussing her "health problems" with Mavis and Deirdre, she has to tell him the real reason for her frequent visits to hospital: she is negotiating with Maurice Jones to donate space for a hospital charity shop in one of his new buildings.
