Steph hasn’t slept overnight and Adam suggests to Alan that psychiatric help is needed. Steph loses control after seeing Adam's face and lashes out, striking him. Alan realises Adam is right. The psychiatrist confirms Adam's diagnosis of Steph and explains that she needs to stay in hospital under careful observation. As Alan and Adam go to leave, Steph begs her father to stay with her. It wrenches Alan to leave his sobbing daughter. As the realisation of what he has done starts to hit him, Adam begins to break down.
