While reading the newspaper, Telly calls out all the adults to alert them that today is "Grouch Appreciation Day" and that they need a way to show Oscar how much they appreciate him. Though they are hesitant at first, Telly has everyone think about what it feels like if they were left out of a celebration, so they decide to throw him a party (something Grouches already love to hate). Oscar pops from his trash can and asserts he doesn't want anything on Grouch Appreciation Day, knowing they'd try to stage a celebration of some kind.
